The population of Lassen County was 33,658 in 2012, a decrease from the 2000 population of 33,828. The density of the population is low because the county is so large at 4,557 square miles. 46% of the population is employed by a private enterprise, while an equal amount is employed by government entities in the county of Lassen. 7% of individuals are self-employed.
The majority of the population in Lassen County is white non-hispanic at 66.7%; hispanic or latino make up 17.5%; 8% of the population is comprised of black non-hispanics; 2.9% of the population is represented by American Indian or Alaska Natives alone; while multiracial individuals make up 2.5%, other races comprise 1% and asian individuals make up 1% as well.
Lassen County is similar to other rural California counties in that it's a melding of different terrains -- particularly akin to Contra Costa County -- making the area a virtual haven for those interested in the great outdoors. The Great Basin, Cascade Mountains and Sierra Nevada Mountains all meet in this beautiful and picturesque county.
