About Calaveras County
Calaveras County contains 10 different communities -- Dorringotn, Arnold, Avery, Murphys, Angels Camp, Copperopolis, Valley Springs, San Andreas, West Point and Mokelumme Hill CA. The 2012 population was 44,742, up from 40,554 at the turn of the century. Private organizations employ the vast majority of the population, while the government employs one quarter and 12% of the population is self-employed.

The facility was recently completed in 2013, the first large-scale construction of a new jail in addition to the original Calaveras County Jail originally built in 1963. Improvements and modifications were made to this original structure as growth dictated, including the addition of a maximum security wing in 1999.
